Commercial Management Accountant – 2 year fixed term, full time contract
Hybrid working, including three days in our Leeds based project office.
Summary:
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Commercial Management Accountant to join Bradford Low Carbon Hydrogen Limited (BLCH) and play a pivotal role in delivering one of the UK’s largest low carbon hydrogen production facilities.
BLCH is the largest scheme to be subsidised from the Government’s first Hydrogen Allocation Round, which aims to bridge the gap between the cost of hydrogen and counter factual fossil fuels. The trailblazing facility, based in the heart of Bradford, comprises hydrogen production, storage and fuelling facilities and once operational will produce up to 12.5 tonnes of low carbon hydrogen daily.
In addition to a proven track record and qualification in management accounting, the successful candidate will ideally have experience of working on a Contract for Difference (CfD) within the electricity industry (the same mechanism now being used to stimulate hydrogen production).
BLCH is a Joint Venture partnership between hydrogen production developers Hygen Energy and N-Gen Energy Solutions.
Duration
For an initial two-year period, during the build of the facility, the postholder will work as a contractor (e.g. limited company) for BLCH. There is the option to extend the role into the operational phase of the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare management accounts for inclusion in board reporting
- Fulfil the reporting requirements of government contracts including the Grant Fund Agreement and Low Carbon Hydrogen Agreement
- Develop commercial strategies to deliver costs within budgets
- Update the operations model for BLCH and regularly report valuation
- Prepare status reports and support the financial audit process
- Manage the accounts for BLCH, including the payment and collections process
- Prepare budgets and detailed forecasts and accurately report financial performance, to support quarterly cash calls to shareholders
- Risk assess and manage control of BLCH, minimising financial and commercial risk and ensure appropriate controls are in place and complied with.
- Ensure all financial aspects and impacts of a contract are clear to all stakeholders
- Work as an effective team member, supporting colleagues and working towards collective goals
- Supervise the Quantity Surveying function for commercial management
- Coordinate commercial contract arrangements and terms of engagement for various forms of contract
- Challenge & manage cost control and provide cost mitigation measures where appropriate
Skills and experience required:
- Qualified Member of a Professional Accounting body (ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA)
- Excellent communicator with a pro-active approach. Ability to interact with all levels of the organisation, be professional, detail conscious and continually seeking improvement.
- Experience of working on Contract for Difference (CfD) contracts is preferred, but not essential
- Experience of presenting to a wide variety of audiences (Financial & Non-Financial)
- Excellent organisational & record keeping skills and task management skills
- Self-motivated. Capable of working under minimal supervision and on own initiative.
- Experience of successfully managing and implementing change and improvement.
- Must be an excellent communicator with a pro-active approach. Ability to interact with all levels of the organisation, be professional, detail conscious and continually seeking improvement.
- Work flexibly to meet the needs of the role including occasional travel to other locations within the UK.

About the Role
The role will be site based at one of the largest green H2 refueling stations in Europe based in Tyseley, Birmingham. You will be operating and maintaining a site in our growing network of hydrogen refueling stations conducting all operational and maintenance requirements including but not limited to:
- Create and maintain the required maintenance documentation (WOC, RAMS) to allow safe maintenance, calibration, installation, fault diagnosis, and repair of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
- Inspect, repair and maintain all types of LV electrical plant, apparatus and control equipment.
- Carryout preventive maintenance, repairs and calibration onsite to plant /apparatus as appropriate.
- Maintain files, logs and drawings for all control, instrumentation and electrical equipment using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Understand piping and instrument Diagrams (P&ID’s), signal loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, etc.
- To propose and develop modifications and improvements to plant /apparatus as appropriate.
- Liaise with and oversee suppliers and contractors supplying goods or services to ensure compliance with company procedures.
- Assist the maintenance and operations team to achieve collective objectives and goals.
- Ensure good housekeeping at all times, maintain the workshop and other work areas in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
- Complete other tasks/duties within the scope and spirit of the job as instructed by management.
- Perform all duties in manner consistent with environmental, health and safety and company policies.
What are we looking for?
- Minimum NVQ L3 qualification or relevant apprenticeship.
- 3+ years’ experience working as a technician within the industrial gases sector.
- Familiarity with conducting planned preventative maintenance in alignment with OEM guidance.
- Working knowledge of technical documents & drawings including P&IDs, electrical diagrams & control logic flow diagrams
- Experience in the generation of method statements & risk assessments as well as familiarity with permit to work schemes.
- Good organizational & reporting skills
- A keen eye and attention to detail
- Flexible working practice. Able to work in an environment that requires working unsociable hours at short notice to ensure overall operations & maintenance cover 365 days per year.

- Ability to work a three shift rota.

About the Role
The role will encompass the design, build and test of hydrogen storage and dispensing systems. It will also involve managing network connections for all sites You will be required to support company safety, quality and regulatory approval functions. The successful candidate will work without supervision but be able to seek support and advice when necessary.
Responsibilities
- Electrical Installation Design (tray work/ ducting/equipment installation arrangements); previous experience in EPC advantageous
- Generate schematics and single line diagrams design

- Creating equipment specifications, calculation sheets and manuals
- Creating Bills of Material/equipment lists
- Carrying out cable calculations
- Wiring Diagrams & cable schedule

- Motor Control Centre Specifications
- Participate in plant safety studies and design reviews (HAZOP/LOPA).
- Completing applications for new connections to the distribution and transmission network, managing the connection process through to delivery with DNOs, TOs, ICPs and IDNOs
- Conducting evaluation of grid capacity for new sites
Education & Training
Knowledge and Experience
- 3 years’ experience within a Design Engineering Environment
- Basic understanding of IEC Standards and ‘Explosive atmospheres
- Knowledge of electrical installation design
- Knowledge of wiring and schematics
- Some knowledge of grid connection, HV requirements and design is also preferred
- Proficient user with high end design CAD software packages
- Strong working experience with industrial electrical systems.
- Experience designing CE marked electrical panels and installations in accordance with EN 61439 and IEC 60364.
- Good understanding of safety circuits and components.
- Working knowledge of the design requirements of the LV and EMC directives.
- Experience with incorporating Siemens PLCs and switchgear into panel designs (beneficial)
Skills and Abilities
- Candidate should have strong organisational skills, be self-motivated and enjoy working in a team environment.
- A can-do attitude and a willingness to get involved in all aspects of the project lifecycle.
- Capability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- An attention to detail and a methodical approach to work is essential for this role.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The successful candidate must be willing to occasionally travel within the UK and overseas.
